About Us & How To Join

Clubs Objectives

The objectives of the Geelong Gem & Mineral Club Inc. are to promote and further the craft of lapidary, the study of minerals, silverwork, metalwork and other allied crafts by way of training, lectures, discussions, field trips, etc.

The Club is non-political and non-sectarian. All income of the Club is applied to its objectives.

What to expect as a member.

While our well-equipped purpose-built club rooms in Hamlyn Heights are a wonderful place to create and learn, its our members who make the club great.

The Geelong Gem & Mineral Club Inc. has always been purely run by volunteers. It was started in 1967 and has continued due to the efforts of our members who pitch in to make it a community.

Knowledge and skills have been passed down over years from member to member. So who knows, one day you might be paying it forward by teaching others the skills our members will teach you!

Who can apply to be a member?

Any person of good standing may apply for Membership.

You don't need to have any prior experience in Lapidary or Silversmithing. But you do need a desire to learn a new hands-on hobby and become part of a club.

The expectation of members is they will attend Monthly Club Meetings to participate in the decision making, information sharing, and fellowship of the Club (or at least tender an apology if unable to attend).

The club does offer Junior programs at times, where structured learning and activity is offered to juniors, by members with “Working with Children” certification, and this is usually held on a Friday evening. Please contact us about current Junior member programs.
